Hot off the Press!
Just this morning (28/7/20) our proposal was presented and accepted in its final round with the local board! This is exciting news team! The last remaining actions are a month of public notification and iwi consultation which will commence in the next few days. This means we are on track for a spring 2020 launch! Lets get ready to celebrate with some wheelbarrows and spades!
You're Invited - our next community meeting!
As we get closer to this long awaited launch we thought it was high time to get together in person! Aside from meeting one another, we are keen to bring all enthusiastic volunteers up to speed on the current plans, strategy and opportunities for getting involved. We'll give an overview of the timeline and discuss what needs to happen for planning our first stage. It will be also be a great chance to hear from you all regarding your own personal hopes and goals for this garden too!
Date: August 12th
Time: 7.30pm
Where: Westlake Forrest Hill Kindergarten
RSVP: Please reply to this email with a quick "yes I hope to be there" so we can get a rough idea for how many seats to put out!
Introducing Lucy Xia
We are very excited to introduce you to the newest member of the team - Lucy Xia (夏叶). Perhaps you've seen some Chinese translation on the seedling stand or in our social media posts - all thanks to this lovely lady! Lucy joins us in the role of Chinese Community Liaison. She shares our same vision and passion for combining nature and community and so we are thrilled to have a Mandarin speaker who can help make the welcome and connection for our chinese neighbours even easier.
We would love to have Community Liaison representing more of our non-english speaking neighbours so if you or someone you know shares the same vision, get in touch!
We're starting a mini garden in Sunnynook!
While we have patiently been waiting our turn, another opportunity to get growing has arisen.
We have been approached by the Sunnynook Community Association to establish a single raised vegetable garden bed on site at the Sunnynook Community Centre. We see this as an awesome opportunity to get the garden ball rolling and to share the green love with one of our neighbouring communities. If you are interested in helping out with either or both - the raised bed set up and ongoing maintenance - hit reply to this email, let us know and we will be in touch.
