What is this all about?

 

We are a couple of garden enthusiasts and hopeless romantics. We can’t bare the idea of a bunch of great people in Forrest Hill staying behind their fences and not knowing each other.

Our dream is to create a garden in Seine Road reserve which will be a place to learn to grow organic food, and a place to get to know our neighbours. It will be a beautiful space, a learning space, a place to get stuck in, and a place to experience what community can really be.

Where are you up to in the process?

 

As with many things in life, good things take time. We have been working with the council since 2018, and we were granted permission late 2019. There are a few more steps in the process but we are hoping to break ground in spring or early summer.

 

How can I get involved?

 

There are plenty of ways you can participate in this project. Here are just a few:

  • Come and garden (no experience required).

  • Help with spreading the news on social media.

  • Flyer drops

  • Funding proposals

  • Volunteer coordinating

  • Marketing

Another one of the fab neighbours we met during lockdown. This lovely lady donated a load of seeds and bags of potting and seed raising mix to contribute to the continued seed raising efforts during lockdown. That stuff was like black gold at the time when no one could get their hands on it! A bit of perspective as we readjust to life post lockdown... The tyranny of the busy life means we often look for results, but perhaps lots of the best things are happening behind the scenes when we focus on sowing the good stuff...
Over the last 5 years this community of people have transformed an unused piece of land from a kikuyu covered bowling green into a beautifully flourishing community garden. A lot of hard mahi and aroha is evident in their story, so is the wonderful sense of community they have developed in the process. We’re super grateful for champions like these who have gone ahead and paved the way🙌💚🏆
We’re continuing to grow in the digital world while we’re waiting to grow in the real world!
One of our daily highlights (yes daily!) is discovering the fabulous offerings people have been leaving in the sharing space at the seedling stand. It gives us great delight to see others taking the opportunity to be generous with their surplus - and nothing is ever left for more than a day. Your generosity is greatly valued😊
